When you have questions, be sure that you ask your teacher for additional information.  You will be given several websites to visit where you will be able to see additional information about medical terms, pronunciation, procedures and more.

Computer Lab Reviews

A computer lab introduced the use of Excel and Microsoft Word, as they might be used in a pharmacy, drug store or other medical setting.

Excel: First in the lab, we saw how Excel could be used to keep track of medical terms and their definitions or drug names and their ingredients.  Excel was also used as the data source to send a letter to all pharmacy customers.

The letter created in the lesson was addressed to the individual customer and included the current prescriptions taken by the customer, the name and address of their primary physician and other information.

To create an Excel list of medical terms and definitions that can later be alphabetized and linked to a table of contents:

1. Open up a new Excel workbook.
2. Enter Column titles, in cells A1, B1, C1, and so on.  (Example: in cell A1: Term; In cell B1: Definition; In cell C1: Page in text where the item is discussed: Here is a sample Excel worksheet with Term in column A, Definition in column B and Added Info in column C.  To sort, make a single cell in column A , the active cell (it will have a dark border around the cell, then click on the AZ button on the   Standard Toolbar.  This will place all the data in order (alphabetic) based on the terms in column A

Mail Merge Handout (in Microsoft Word Format)
